Sharjah Children Shura Council is one of the self-development initiatives and programs at Sharjah Children. This unique council was established under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah in 1997. It was first called the Sharjah Children's Parliament, but this name was subsequently changed to Sharjah Children Shura Council in 1999.
Sharjah Children Shura Council is directly monitored by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and his wife, Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Rubu' Qarn, Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators.
The Shura Council is based on free elections, and children of the Emirate of Sharjah run for elections every two years. The Shura Council holds its sessions under the supervision of Sharjah Children.
The main aim of the Shura Council is to raise children's awareness of the importance of the practice of Shura, instilling in them a sense of responsibility, enabling them to express their views on issues that concern them, and to engage in discussions with concerned officials in a respectful manner. It also aims to raise interest in children's issues within child-facing community institutions, especially where it concerns children's education, health, and well-being. Finally, the Shura aims to create a conscientious generation of intellectuals aware of their reality, and able to present their issues and contribute to solving them.
